Dave Gray, Bristish Telecom

Dave is a ‘lifer’ with British Telecom, having joined in 1979 as a graduate direct from the University of London.  Early years were spent in various parts of the BT supply chain, honing business analyst skills in both process development and IT automation.

By the 1990s, he had become established as a subject matter expert in forecasting, and also project managed implementation of a major Forecasting, Inventory Planning and DRP system for BT’s supply chain.  Then in 1999, he was asked to design and implement a system to support BT’s then new Vendor Managed Inventory process, in conjunction with 3 major suppliers.  The VMI system was a major success, receiving two UK national awards within the Logistics industry.

VMI also brought a first encounter with the world of B2B, with the implementation of 7 EDIFACT EDI messages.  When BT joined the RosettaNet Telecom Council in 2003, Dave became BT’s ‘Champion’, working to promote use of xml standards within the company.  He is currently working on supply chain aspects of BT’s new Voice over IP network, with particular challenges for both forecasting and the ordering of installation services.
