Building Resilience Against Supply
Chain Disruptions
by Mark Morley Industry Marketing
Director at GXS
2011 was a tough year for high
tech with both natural and political
disasters disrupting global supply
chains. In response, companies have
restructured their supply chains for
greater resilience. New B2B tools
are available now to enable
unstructured supply chain
communication, reducing risk. This
session will provide examples of how
companies have restructured their
supply chains over the past 12
months and how B2B plays a critical
role in this process.

"enliteB2B"
the EDIFICE light B2B enabler by Dane
Manes, B2B Process Adoption Group Chair and Jan Fuchs,
enliteB2B
Architect
EDIFICE embarked on a study
identifying the bottlenecks
preventing the proliferation of B2B
integration in all layers of the
business. The results of the study
revealed that B2B message standards
currently available are too complex.
This complexity is responsible to
the high investment businesses have
to make before they can participate
in an integrated B2B exchange with
their partners.
Under the
umbrella of the enliteB2B program
EDIFICE launched a first
deliverable: the enliteB2B format
for the purchase order, the ASN and
the invoice messages. Today, EDIFICE
is ready to release those
definitions to its membership.
The enliteB2B format had to
comply to the following criteria:
- The message can be produced or
processed with one sequential write
or read process
- The message
must be human readable
- The
message must be compatible with all
existing middleware & managed
service solutions
- Any spread
sheet program must be able to open
the message
- Any language can be
used to define and use the messages.
EDIFICE is convinced that when
consensus is found around the
proposed enliteB2B messages, the
investment required to participate
in an integrated B2B program will be
reduced by 90% in comparison to the
investment required to work with
other B2B standards and with 50% in
comparison to proprietary formats.
